It was started in 1976 by two eminent doctors , Dr. B. Venkat Rao and his wife Dr. Arundhathi . V. Rao. Having finished their speciality training, both were serving at the Kasturba hospital, Manipal ,when good friends and well wishers guided them to set their base at Shivamogga and thus, they started the UNH in a small establishment . Over the years, it has grown to its present stature and helped patients in and around Shivamogga district in terms of maternity services, numerous surgical and orthopedic operations, hysterectomies and cancer surgeries.

The hospital has modern equipments to provide quality investigations and health care facilities to all class of people and is known for expertise, excellence and experience.
